Bedroom design help? bedding/wall colours?

last night my mom and I went to Sears and we bought this bedding set for my sister (she's 18):

(but it's a lot more yellow in reality)

and... although I LOVE it, she thinks its ugly because of the birds on it.

We also bought this one for my bedroom (I'm 15):

(but it's a lot more purple in reality)

Now, of course, my sister hates the one that we bought her, even though it goes PERFECTLY with her bedroom set and it looks wonderful. Now I'm reconsidering if I should keep the purple one that i have, because my walls are also lilac and it's a lot of one colour. I only bought the purple because it's my favorite colour and my mom and I agreed to repaint my room yellow, but now she doesn't want to spend the money on paint. Now my room looks really odd because I have cherry wood furniture (it's pretty much red), lilac walls, and lilac bedding.

Both beddings are REALLY pretty. I would take a color from the bedding and make it your "POP" color. meaning use that color to acccent the room, such as candles, pictures , or even picture frames. You can also incorporate an off color rug.

My room walls are green, My comforter set is mainly green. I used the color of the wood and bought picture frames. and the POP color I used was cream and chocolate. So my flowers are cream, I have a picture with rich brown tones and cream in it. I get a lot of compliments.

Good Luck!

BTW, don't paint your walls yellow, if your favorite color is purple or lilac the you will regret it later. : )
Reply:Both the bedrooms are lovely. How about getting a part time job to buy the other paint.
Reply:First of all, I congratulate you on your taste. Both sets are very sophisticated. Don't swap bedding. Your sister can downplay all the yellow with fern green pillows, adding shelves to her walls and placing greenery on them. Simplify her accessories and she will have a very sleek look.

For yours, you can also play down the lilac by adding a neutral. I would again, suggest fern green pillows and simplify your accessories. Maybe even a nubby throw rug on the floor.
