I need some ideas to decorate my room. I am a 14 year old girl w/ a small room, about 10X10 ft. I had some ideas-- I wanted to do a real, fun, bright, room. But i also wanted to do a french-chic room-- black pumps as hooks, lilac walls, white down comforter, black vanity, etc. But i also wanted to do a real relaxing one, like a lilac or lite grn with plants. I don't know what to doooo!!!! See, I'm a really fun, bubbly person who loves to laugh, and loves happy colors. But sometimes I get really stressed and just want a place to relax. This needs to be CHEAP! I need some cheap, DIY designer worthy ideas!!! Oh- my friend had a really cool room, it was like royal purple, and w/ a tulle canopy, and royal purple bedspread, etc. I need something CHEAP, FUN, AND I CAN RELAX IN. THANKS SO MUCH
NEED ROOM DESIGNER WORTHY help!!!?
Jess, the cheapest way to change a room is PAINT. In my house, if you stand still long enough, I will paint you!!!!! You can use paint on just about anything. If you really want to have fun, choose a "not so shocking" color for your walls, one that you find in a lot of accessories, one that you can really mix and match, and keep it on the lighter shades. The darker you go, the smaller you will make your room seem, which is a definate NO NO. You can paint furniture if you use a good enamel paint and be careful with what you place on it. Find some great drawer pulls for your dresser or other furniture on ebay or at a DIY store, which really changes the look of your furninture fast and easy. There are some great products out there called "wallies" in a bunch of different themes, which you can use on your walls to bring in flowers or fairies or whatever you are into. You can find photos of just about any theme you are into at art.com and then frame them, attach them to your lightswitch plates, decopauge them, and many other things. Find junky furniture at flea markets or garage sales and then paint them up using a "Mary Englebreight" approach. If you never heard of her, google her...she is the best artist for bubbly people. You will love her stuff. Just decide what kind of theme you are after, keep the walls as neutral as you can, and as light as you can, and go to town with paint and inexpensive accessories. What you want to be able to do is keep adding to the room, picking up things along your travels, without it clashing with your decor...you don't want to make too bold of a permeanant move, which you will be a slave to, and stuck with.
Reply:Paint the room a light orange on one half and lilac on the other. On the light orange side paint a large happy faced yellow sun and happy faced flowers. On the lilac side paint a happy faced moon with happy faced stars.
On the moon hang your black vanity mirror and your black pumps (found at good will or surplus, and you can paint them black if they are the wrong color) for hooks. You can also give the moon arms and hands and use wooden pegs for fingers instead of the pumps.
On the sun side, is where you want wall shelves where you will have your plants, where you are going to put the white down comforter and other stuff.
Reply:Hey Jess, check out hgtv's site there's great ideas on there.
