Identifying leaves & flower buds of trees?

I have been stumped...the leaf looks like that of a lilac but the flowering bud of the tree looks like that of a magnolia tree..tree flower bud is spiral in shape with 5 petals colored pink with white undertones, a 5 pointed star stamen. Tree is not of Magnolia as I have looked thru several web sites and books that I have on hand. I am totally stumped. Leaves are thick in nature with "fuzz" on top and undersides. Leaf and veins are that of lilac though. Can anyone help? I can provide a jpeg if asked. Thanks for all help provided. the only thing i could think of was magnolia also. maybe its some sort of hybird magnolia.
Reply:Here's a web site that may give you some info. I love this web site

Reply:Would it be a Royal Empress tree (paulownia) or a Catalpa (they are similar). Leaves aren't as fuzzy as magnolia. They can grow very large. The flowers look like lilacs.

But if the flower is single, I'm not sure. Heck, send me a jpeg, maybe I can recognize it from that.

Does it have any sort of fruit or seed? That might be your best clue. It's fun to see if we can figure it out.
