I want a crafty wedding that is different but don't cost alot of money, Help?

I am getting married in a church. My colors are lilac and white, and for the reception the colors are going to be pink and lilac with doves all around the place. But i want some different ideas that will spark the place up, and make it different from any other wedding.

Reply:I'm not sure what to tell you. You have to go with your intincts. Find something you like, that you've never seen at another wedding.

Unfortunately I don't know you or I may be able to help. I made homemade crackle vases for one ladies wedding then we put flowers in the vases. My aunts wedding we made homemade flowers.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Where is your reception going to be at?
Reply:I would just pick two or three things you will hand-craft. Favors are always a good place to start. I did some paper doily favor cones for a friend's wedding last December. Took a piece of cardstock and made it into a cone. Then took the round doily and wrapped it around the cone and hot-glued the doily to stay together. Then took a hole punch and punched two holes about 1/2" apart about an inch down from the top and cut a piece of tulle about 6" long and thread it thru the holes, tied a knot and hot-glued a rhinestone in the middle. Then put a puff of tulle in the bottom as a filler and they were filled with hershey kisses. Delicate, lovely and unique. These were for the reception.

For some real spark, look at the eiffle tower vases with ostrich feathers. They are absolutely gorgeous and not mainstream enough that everyone has seen them. I think these would be a nice tie-in with the doves. Maybe even put some of those pink lights in the bottom of them...

As far as the ceremony goes, I'd suggest you make yourself a GORGEOUS ring bearer pillow. Bead it, fringe it and make it a little large. You can use it for a throw pillow on your bed after the wedding... For some reason, everyone notices the pillow and you'll get the most impact there.

You could always get terracotta flower pots, spray paint them white and hot glue a tulle bow in the front with a rhinestone in the middle and plant flowers of the season in them. You could use them on the tables at the reception and lining the front steps. Don't even think about hand-painting or stenciling on them, it will be way too much work.

Keep your crafts simple and focus on the most impact. And make sure you allow yourself plenty of time. You'll get burned out working on them and need a break. Congratulations, good luck and you'll do great!
Reply:call up some very crafty relatives and request in lieu of gifts that they help with the decorating of the wedding if your after that special wedding memory then that is what you tell them . Or ask them to help I planned my whole wedding and it only cost me 200 from the license to the dress to the dinner. The dress belonged to my Grandmother which was not her wedding dress it was a dress she wore to church that was satiny i borrowed a beautiful lacy scarf from my aunt and added little beads in the trim of the scarf and draped it over my shoulders i made a bouquet out of flowers ribbons and pearl i purchased from walmart and i bought my cake from there to i purchased several cakes with the same theme and went to the craft section and purchased little pillar looking things and built the cake up by using those things you can also purchase the toppers and a couple of doves . the topper is the couple you put on top the doves you can attach to the pillars.
Reply:Christmas lights. I know it sounds stupid but I just got married last March and we put white Christmas lights around the windows of the reception hall and along the baseboards surrounding the room. It added a magic touch and a romantic feel.
Reply:Sorry Hun, it will be like every other wedding, unless you do something way different, like everyone dress up like Beetlejuice.

I was married in Central Park, New York City..just me and hubby came from down south. Now that was cool.
Reply:Have you ever thought about a theme wedding?? You could pick your favorite era - like the 30s and have a 30s flapper theme, or a groovy 70s wedding. Maybe a Hawaiian Luau theme, or an old Hollywood glamour theme. I like the idea of something different. Make your day special to you and your soon-to-be spouse. If you make it a day full of fun that you can never forget, it's sure to be a crowd pleaser too! If you want to keep it more traditional, maybe spice things up with some non-traditional flowers, or a fun, funky gown. The best thing about it is -- it's your day!

About saving money - I read somewhere (can't remember where) to get a scaled down version of the cake you really want, and have a sheet cake in the back to save some money. Also, if you get married on a Friday instead of a Saturday you can save a TON! These are 2 ideas I might actually use for saving some cash when planning my big day.

Congrats, and enjoy married life! :-)
Reply:I would try looking at craft stores and get a wedding magazines for ideas on do it yourself weddings
Reply:Just because it's crafty doesn't mean it's cheap- I had a crafty wedding that I handled a lot of details- in the end it was 15k for 70 guests. So...plan and reseach as it still ends up to be a lot. :)
