A womans touch is needed in my decorating?

I try to decorate a second bedroom for visitors that come at xmas. the second bedroom will be for the 18 yr old son of my friend. My friend is from Ukraine, her son. It is their first visit to the UK

I have laid new dark blue carpet, painted the walls in soft grey with some grey/lilac curtains. the duvet cover and top pillows are lilac, the sheet and bottom pillows dark blue. There is a computer in the room and friends lend xbox and pc games. Furniture is beech, bed frame is silver/beech

But ... the walls are bare, I want him to feel at home. what can I place on the walls? or some other simple decoration...

this is a serious question, I need a womans touch?

A womans touch is needed in my decorating?
hi there well i will suggest putting up some Nice posters maybe something he would like u can easily take them down after he leaves or how about using some of the other colours in the room like the lilac or dark blue or even sliver to do a Mosaic on one wall like squares in a pattern that will break up the wall and add a bit of colour and uniqueness good luck with it and have a great Xmas x x
Reply:I think your efforts would be wasted on an 18-year-old... they'll happily crash on a mattress on a garage floor!

But just for the sake of decorating, some prints in pewter-colored frames might look nice. The pewter color will pick up the grey in the fabrics.
Reply:No, you need to know your friend's son's interests, e.g. bands, music etc. Then buy appropriate posters. If all else fails, try dolphin/whale posters and/or joke posters, e.g. "Beer, cause of, and solution to, most of life's problems.".
Reply:I think a set of 3 floral rattan chests (http://www.matalan.co.uk/pages/products/... would look lovely on the floor. I also think a the following print, Lavender Thistle I, might work to bring it altogether. You can see it on Easyart.com.

Good luck.
Reply:the room sounds lovely well done.if youre looking for pictures id go for something abstract as the room sounds quite modern maybe with silver frames(dont go for flowers! ect) or what about some beech shelves?id take a visit to ikea even just to get some ideas, they have some lovely things which are very reasonable prices.i agree the 18 yr old probably wont take much notice but i bet his mother will!!!have a great xmas and it sounds like you managed just fine on the decorating front without the help of a woman.(you want to come and do mine?)
Reply:playboy pics?
Reply:How about some shelves in a wood that matches the furniture, and then put some nice pictures or flowers on them? You could also use some nice pictures. You could put up a mirror. We have some wooden masks from other cultures hanging on the walls. Go to www.art.com for some nice, inexpensive posters. You can also get something like vintage tin signs to hang up. There are lots of options. Best of luck.
Reply:sounds like youve already done a great job anyways. all you really need is some sort of wall art, something that will be mutual to all guests.just try some artwork containing the colors of the room, and some new lighting and a few items for the nightstand like photos, a clock and candles. a few throw pillows wouldnt hurt either. youve done the ground work, all you need is accesories-they are the finishing touch in decorating
Reply:If the visitor is your friend, why not hang pictures of your self and your friend from the past if you have any. If not, hang things or pictures of your own special interests so that your friends son might learn to know who you are.
Reply:Get some of the frameless picture frames from athena or somewhere, that you can choose your own prints for.
Reply:In Ikea they have nice framed prints, not too expensive either, you could get one with a nice natural theme, like a picture of the sea etc in a nice silver or beech frame.

They also have framed prints like this in big tesco's and places like B%26amp;Q, expect to spend about £30.

I would also put up a clock (they have nice inexpensive ones in Ikea again, maybe one with an alarm he can set)

Have a look for a vase or a potted plant to pop on the window sill too.

I think that should do it! Oh, and don't forget a mirror for him too.

It sounds little but you'd be amazed the difference putting up a picture can make.
Reply:Wow, it sounds good to me. By some prints of something white. Some prints of actual white lilacs woould be nice. Very, very nice color scheme though. My complements.
Reply:An 18 y/o boy won't be interested in the decor!! All he will see is the Computer and the x-box, seriously though, the room sounds really nice.
