How much will u pay for different type of colors/genes dwarf hamsters?
most people do not choose hamsters based on colors except if you are a hamster breeder, in general, people will buy from a store, and they just choose the hamsters based off their friendliness and %26quot;cuteness%26quot;

sorry, but i think for any hamster, i wouldn%26#039;t spend over $20, they are generally cheap pets, and when they are on sale, i have seem them as low as $5, but they generally sell anywhere from $5-20, if you want to make good money on them, sell them to a breeder that is looking for a specific hamster gene code or color, when you are looking for a specific one, some people will pay higher prices for them, such as $40, $50, $60

Part 1....

We knock daintily to be let within, shuffling, gazing

Past our shoes

To the walkway quietly journeyed, up the steps,

Old, splintered...

Wondering the replacement, wondering the newness

Of the wood. No, never cement, stone, brick...

Always wood.

Soon weathered, warm, not threatening with fresh, cold.

Hedges trimmed to a leaf, both sides of the covered

Doorway porch.

Nothing to stop wind, rain.

Guests must be quick inside on a drear afternoon,

Not laughing, arm-in-arm, but quick-tapping

The stone walkway to the door. For comfort.

This must be the place. Numbers are correct. Street name.

Again, the timid knock. Our gloves shiny, clean, buffering

Knuckles.

Oh, someone must be home! We heard they%26#039;re always

Home...the boring things.

%26#039;I wouldn%26#039;t be their servant, Harold.%26#039;

%26#039;Nor I, nor I. Shush! I thought there was a step. No, no,

Nothing.%26#039;

%26#039;I told them we were...why, we were invited! What if

No one%26#039;s home, Harold. What if the long way was

For nothing? %26#039;

Part 2....

Crossroads. Choosing. Turning, or straight. Once no crossroads.

No choices. No time or place to stop.

Freedom.

Fields of Lavender past horizons. Lilac forests topping hills,

Stretching bright to the sky.

Stepping stones over rills, brooks...seeking the other side,

And, back. Again.

No crossroads.

Those who sought things, made crossroads.

And, in seeking, left their marks of passing.

Not knowing what they sought.

In not knowing, the seekers carved desperation into the

Earth.

Prints, signs of wandering with no direction.

Those who followed the prints, knifed them to roads, paths,

Crossed. Crossed again.

Crossed to Light. Crossed to Dark.

Choosing the Right. Deciding the Left.

Turning. Always looking back.

Choosing.

Unsure of the choice.

Travelling the walkways. Slicing steps into the

Earth.

The gardener knew the ways of Lavender. Lilac.

The gardener knew no paths.

Part 3....

%26#039;Think you to enter at this hour? %26#039; The gardener, laminated in mist.

Too close.

Twined eyes, not breathing. Seeing, not seeing.

%26#039;We%26#039;re invited guests...%26#039;

%26#039;Everyone is. You have something of Earth? Dirt, water, flower

Of the golden bough? %26#039;

Madness. Many the form, texture. Smile of teeth. Blankness of

A door.

No one beyond that door.

No one beyond.

%26#039;Harold, tell him we knocked. Harold? We%26#039;ve travelled too far...%26#039;

%26#039;What is %26#039;far%26#039;? %26#039;

The gardener spread his arms. Pointed here, there, up, down.

Asylum%26#039;s laughter. Strangled eyes. Screeching.

%26#039;Which way did you come? %26#039;

They looked back, unsure. Right? Left? No direction. Not now.

Balance broken. Paths gone.

%26#039;Did you pass the crossroad? %26#039;

%26#039;Several...is anyone...%26#039;

%26#039;There is only one crossroad leading here.%26#039;

Laughter in the air. Flowers in the mist.

Lavender. Lilacs.

Crossroad of madness. Driven beyond choices, haunted rooms

Behind eyes...

The gardener was many things...necessary, unwanted.

Final acceptance.

Final door open, only walk through. The first. The last. And out.

Finality.

Know that doors can choose to never open again. The

Chandelier shines as bright. The party as merry.

This end to matters.

What matters choice? Hesitant before. Always unsure after.

Paths, steps of choosing.

No finality.

%26#039;Did you expect the door to open? %26#039;

%26#039;Look, here is our invitation...%26#039;

%26#039;No matter that. All gone.%26#039;

Nothing in her pocket.

A tiredness. Perhaps acceptance. A dawning.

%26#039;Oh, Harold...%26#039; Futility. %26#039;Your old mother...who%26#039;ll...%26#039;

%26#039;It%26#039;s a remarkable world. You cannot pass the door.

You can appeal.%26#039;

The gardener checked the hedges for growth, nodded. Laughed.

%26#039;That process is Eternity.%26#039;

How do you get cut lilacs to last more than 3 days before wilting?

For longer life, cut lilacs from the bush just as the flowers begin to open. Dissolving an aspirin in the water in which you plan to place the lilac stems will also help.

After a couple of days, re-cut the stems, removing an inch to two inches. Place them in a fresh vase with fresh water and an aspirin again.

Reply:Lincoln was assassinated in April, when lilacs were in bloom in Washington, DC. Usually springtime flowers are symbols of rebirth, of the earth reviving and blooming again after winter. But in this poem the lilacs become associated with death.

The poem refers to the murdered president symbolically as %26quot;great star%26quot; in the heavens and also as %26quot;him I love.%26quot;

Some sections of the poem describe the funeral train carrying Lincoln%26#039;s body on a cross-country journey from Washington to its burial place in Illinois.

Whitman uses images from nature -- such as birds and flowers -- to suggest that not only is he mourning Lincoln%26#039;s death, not only are the people of the United States mourning their fallen leader, but the whole natural world is in mourning for the loss of a truly great soul.

When do you transplant lilacs?

do you have to wait untilthge leaves fall off

When do you transplant lilacs?
Lilacs can be successfully transplanted just about any time of the year. The only period of risk is from mid-May to mid-July. No, you do not need to wait for the leaves to fall. Here are some guidelines to transplanting: http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/HGIC1...
Reply:No. I have moved mine early in the spring when the ground is just soft enough to dig but past frost. But usually I wait until early fall then they are done blooming but not in the hibernating cycle yet.

I%26#039;ve also moved one with a bloom on it and it kept blooming all the way thru the season. The key part is to give it enough water until the roots grab on their own early on. You don%26#039;t need to worry about that as much in the fall as its not needing as much water now.

Why won't my lilacs bloom ?

They have been in the same spot for over ten years and have only blossumed a couple of times. Any suggestions ?

Why won%26#039;t my lilacs bloom ?
Why Lilacs Don%26#039;t Bloom

Every year we gets calls from people who are disappointed their lilacs bloomed only sparsely or not at all, even though there were gorgeous lilacs blooming all over the county – even in abandoned house lots and in yards that look totally uncared for. Here%26#039;s a rundown of the most common reasons a lilac might not bloom:

* Shade: Excess shade is the most likely culprit when lilacs fail to bloom well. Lilacs bloom best in full sunlight, or at least a half-day of sun. Anything less will mean fewer flowers developing. When they%26#039;re in a location that%26#039;s shaded all day, lilacs rarely bloom at all. Sometimes the shade creeps up over the years as nearby shade trees grow taller and fuller. In many cases, the lilacs may have been planted in a poor location to begin with.

* Pruning: If you prune lilacs back drastically, it may take a number of years before they begin to bloom again. They should produce flowers eventually, but it could take three or four years – maybe even longer. If you prune only lightly, but wait until mid to late summer to do it, you may not see many flowers the following year. That%26#039;s because the flower buds for the following year are set shortly after the plant is through blooming. So if you do plan to prune, be sure to do it right after the flowers fade in spring. At the very least, you may wish to remove the brown flower/seed clusters which are unsightly.

Nutrients: Lilacs are not heavy feeders; they don%26#039;t need fertilizer to make them bloom. Often, in an attempt to help young plants become established, people will fertilize them several

times each spring and summer. Plus, there%26#039;s usually some lawn nearby, which is also fertilized. This abundance of nutrients, especially nitrogen, encourages the lilac to make a lot of leafy, vegetative growth – which may come at the expense of flower bud development. If this appears to be the case, and the plant receives plenty of sunlight and hasn%26#039;t been pruned too heavily or at the wrong time, simply stop the fertilizing. Eventually, it should begin to bloom well.

* Moisture: Lilacs grow best in well-drained soil. While wet, poorly-drained soil isn%26#039;t directly associated with lack of blooms, it is associated with plants that develop root rots or generally fail to thrive. If you have a young lilac in a low lying moist location, transplant it to a more favorable site if at all possible.

Reply:I saw on %26quot;Gardening by the Yard%26quot; (hgtv) that lilacs need lime.
Reply:They probably need Phosphorous. All flowering plants need it. You can buy a product called Bloom. Water in early spring and you should have plenty of blooms. I took cuttings from a friends lilacs, and they took about 7 years to bloom. So the older the plant, the better chance they have of flowering.
Reply:Yell at them.
Reply:Sometimes it helps to rejuvenate them if you prune out a third of the old limbs..new ones will grow and you%26#039;ll get more blossoms.

Are the blooms of lilacs poisonous?
Lilac blossoms are not poisonous. When I was a child, I remember sucking out the interiors of the little flowers because the first time, I was curious, and after that, I liked the sweet taste somewhat. When I was a child I was quite curious and got into all kinds of things. I%26#039;m lucky I didn%26#039;t poison myself, actually, with all the tasting and smelling and poking around.
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t use them like that. Why don%26#039;t you try pansies - they are edible and come in a wide variety of sizes and colours.

I want to grow lilacs. But is it possible to take a cutting and grow a healthy bush from the cutting?

It is very difficult to propagate lilacs from cuttings. There is a small window of opportunity to take a cutting and get it to take. The best way is to harvest sprouts (suckers) that come up from the roots of older established plants. I have done this numerous times with 100% success rate. Dig up a sprout and make sure to get all of the root system, or as much as possible. Plant it in a 1 - 3 gal. pot and add compost or potting mix. In a year or two you can plant it in the yard. Here is info written by Utah State Univ. Extension ......Root sprouts provide the simplest and most

usual way of propagating the common lilac.

Some lilacs send out suckers near the base

of the plant. Dig up these new sprouts in the

fall and transplant them elsewhere in the

garden or in a nursery pot. They often develop

into satisfactory plants in about 3 years. This

method, however, will not be satisfactory

for grafted plants, because the suckers will

not be like the tops of the plants. Look for a

graft union near the soil line to determine if

a plant is grafted.Here is a link explaining why using cuttings is not a good idea... Hope this answers your question...Happy Easter!

I want to grow lilacs. But is it possible to take a cutting and grow a healthy bush from the cutting?
Hello,

You can propagate by a cutting, but it is extremely difficult to get the results you seek.

Most all lilacs offered for sale by growers are propagated, %26quot;invetro culture%26quot;, otherwise by growing tissue in a lab.

I just was at the Arbor Day website, and they offer small lilacs for about $2.50 each.

They are small, but at that price, a real bargain to aquire, grow yourself for a few seasons, then re-sale them again at a better price to others, or to keep yourselve.

Hope this helps,

Dave
Reply:You could do that or find someone that has a lilac and dig up a sucker from the bottom as they are allways sending up suckers. Find one that has roots and plant it. It should grow well.. There are many varieties of lilacs out today... You can get many colors now.
Reply:I take cuttings from almost every shrub I have. I have a rooting box in my backyard and when my shrubs start putting out new growth I clip about a 4in. clipping dip it in root growth and plant. I just keep it moist and depending on the cutting its ready to transplant in around 1 to 2 planting seasons.

How do I prep lilacs for water in vases?

I%26#039;ve smashed ends, slit ends etc. they don%26#039;t last long

How do I prep lilacs for water in vases?
Lilacs never last very long unfortunately. The best you can do is cut the stems at an angle, so that they don%26#039;t sit on the bottom of the vase and also to create a greater surface area for the plant to drink. Also do as you have already tried - splitting the stems about 1 cm up. Place them in warm water not cold.
Reply:They don%26#039;t last long. I pick one bunch for the house and enjoy the rest on the trees. They last longer that way. Make sure to angle cut and use room temperature water. If they are in a cooler area of the house and not sitting in direct sunlight that will help as well.
Reply:you are doing the right things but they don%26#039;t last long indoors. You have to get them at the exact right time - when the buds are coloured but not too open.

Enjoy them in the garden and bring them in understanding it will only be for a couple of days.

How do I prepare lilacs for winter also rhubarb. Winters are harsh?

I transplanted them from my mother%26#039;s garden - warned them if they didn%26#039;t bloom I would hack down - this was in 5th year. They bloomed this year. I have cut off the dried flowers -- now what? Fertilize, work around base? I don%26#039;t recall what Mom did but she was able to make anything bloom. I jus watered them til they finally bloomed. The same question applies for rhubarb -- do I fertilize, cut back wilted brown looking stalks? I have been unable to find answers to this dilemma in all my books!!! Thanks

How do I prepare lilacs for winter also rhubarb. Winters are harsh?
Lilacs are pretty hardy - not much you need to do there - it is good to fertilize lightly in the spring - wood ash or check out Miracid (it%26#039;s like Miracle Gro, but it%26#039;s for flowering plants and shrubs).

Rhubarb likes a rich soil that is loose and not compacted and drains fairly well. What happens with rhubarb is that, at the base, it forms a crown. After a few seasons or so it is good to dig up the crowns, roots and all, in the spring, loosen up the soil really good and deep and add lots of fresh soil, like %26quot;composted%26quot; cow manure (not fresh, since that burns the plants) and split the crowns in half, thirds or quarters and replant, spreading out your rhubarb patch or row as you go. You can wait until the rhubarb %26quot;sprouts%26quot; in the spring, before you dig them up, so you can create strong new plants for replanting, but you shouldn%26#039;t wait too long, so the new plants won%26#039;t experience too much shock when replanted.
Reply:Lilacs are very hardy %26amp; will bloom at a mature date as you%26#039;ve found out. Wood ashes are all that is needed for fertilizer,%26amp; a light mulch. Rubarb is a bit more delicate, so mulch them pretty deep for winter. Cut back for stalks to eat, as they grow. Small stalks are best but you don%26#039;t need to cut anything back on them at seasons end. Just remove dead leaves in the fall, when they turn brown. Rubarb %26amp; strawberries are ready at the same time, mix them to eat or can or freeze! yummmm lol
Reply:The wood ashes is good. Also you only prune or trim them immediately after blooming. Otherwise you are cutting off the bloom for next year if you trim or prune them at any other time. And yes they are hardy.
Reply:I do not do anything to my lilacs other than cut off the dead blooms and cut of the largest trunk I see every year. This keeps the rejuvanated and prevents the lilac from becoming a tree keeping them bushy. Also rip out some of the suckers that come up every year. They have the best bloom the following year after I do this. I never took care of rhubarb before.

My wisteria and lilacs won't bloom what should I do?

I have a lovely lilac hedge in my front yard, the lilacs on one side bloom beautifully, but ones on hte other barely bloom - the difference is the sun - the one end has more trees above them and they get less sun. So one factor to consider is how much sun these plants are getting, they do best in full sun, they will grow in shade, but they may not bloom.

My wisteria and lilacs won%26#039;t bloom what should I do?
Hi: You may be cutting off the blooms unintentionally. With Lilacs especially when you remove the spent blooms cut off only the dead flower and leave the two small leaves just below the flower intact. This way you are not cutting off next years blooms. I am not sure about Wisteria but you could check with the garden centres. You may need to do a good fertilizing of both plants in early spring to encourage blooms.

Looking for Large Lilacs and Rose Of Sharons.?

I have sold my home and dread parting with my mature flowering trees so I was looking for a mail order company that sells larger/older trees for my vacant property. I know of several mail order nurseries, but I was looking for one that sold larger ones. I do realize the shipping will cost more with larger plants but I think its worth it so I can enjoy the trees sooner. A couple feet tall vs. inches.

Looking for Large Lilacs and Rose Of Sharons.?
Hi - I got 75 Rose of Sharons from Burgess for a hedge - http://www.eburgess.com/index.asp They are a really cheap / low cost company. They sell both 2%26#039; and 4%26#039; plants. I got the small ones and within 2 years they were full size (bigger than me). I wouldn%26#039;t worry about buying big plants - the transplant shock is harder on them. I bought small $5 evergreens from home depot while my neighbor brough in huge $75 ones. 3 years later mine grew to his size and his are virtually the same size.

Good Luck
Reply:Shipping would be a bugger! Your best bet is to find your local major nursery....or contact a landscape designer or contractor.......and see what is available in a 10 or 15 gallon size. Remember the wholesaler will also be paying the freight and pass it on to you. How wonderful if you live where plants are still grown locally. You could find a nursery that had a balled and burlaped plant for you. Not real common anymore.

Actually the time advantage isn%26#039;t as great as you imagine. Bigger plants have much bigger roots........more of which are cut for transplanting (ball and burlap) or may have begun circling inside the container (not good). So the plant will spend extra seasons getting new roots reestablished before growth can resume. At least with threes, there%26#039;s very little advantage to buying a higher caliper (tree diameter) tree than one smaller as the smaller will often reestablish faster than the larger due to less root loss.

You are right, a one-three gallon shrub is tiny. By 5 they are getting size and once in awhile you%26#039;ll fine a 7. Beyond that they are rare.......and heavy......think 50+ lbs. You%26#039;d have the best luck getting the largest you can find locally and providing ideal planting location and care towards after planting.

Which, do you like better, %26quot;Tulips%26quot;, or %26quot;Lilacs%26quot;? Me, Lilacs, because of their, smell!!!yummmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!
Lilacs smell better, but tulips last longer.
Reply:Tulips are pretty but you have them for about 3wks and that%26#039;s it. Lilacs are around all year and have beautiful flowers and wonderful scent. Makes a nice screening plant.

Which Color do you like better?

I can%26#039;t decide between two colors for my bridesmaids dresses. They are from David%26#039;s Bridal the choices are Lilac or Victorian Lilac. Lilac is light while the Victorian Lilac is darker. The wedding is Memorial Weekend. I have 6 bridesmaids and a maid of honor. 2 are larger than average, 2 are skinner than average, and the rest are average shape. 2 are brunettes, 1 is a blonde, 2 are dark blonde, and one is a light red head. Only one girl is tan. The rest are light-medium skin toned. I am waiting to hear their opinions, but I wanted to get others opinions. Which color do you like better? You can view them at www.davidsbridal.com

Which Color do you like better?
Lilac. You can always use a darker purple for accents.

For our July wedding, we had lilac, pink, yellow and light teal as our colours.
Reply:Use the lighter color, accented by the darker shade.
Reply:I am also getting married in a few yrs and I have my color picked out and its lilac. So I think that is the best choice.

Cutelinygurl84
Reply:I love Lilac and you should go with the lighter color and follow up with the darker one for your decorations.
Reply:The Victorian Lilac is beautiful. The lighter color looks more for summer.
Reply:It%26#039;s really up to you. I%26#039;m doing purple also for my wedding in May 08. I went straight to David%26#039;s and hated the color choices for the lighter shades of purple. Of your 2 choices, I would pick Lilac.

PS I went to another store and went with a Jordan dress in Violet. Much closer to what I wanted the color to look like.

Have fun.
Reply:I like the Victorian Lilac. The lilac might make certain people look washed out. The Victorian Lilac looks like a color that would look good on everybody. It looks rich and pretty to me.

http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_...

http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_...

I changed my mind. I think you should mix it up and do both. You could do whatever looks best on each bridesmaid and then accent in the opposite color.
Reply:Why don%26#039;t you have the bridesmaids wear the lighter lilac color and the maid of honor wear the Victorian Lilac. It will set her apart from the others.
Reply:Get their opinions. But as a hairstylist with the colors of skin and hair you just described.. sounds like Lilac would look lovely with all of their skin tones. But get their opinions first since they are ones who are buying their dresses.
Reply:I think lilac is a beautiful color fo rthat time of the year. I think it fits the lightest to darkest complexions. For my wedding i had eight bridesmaids and i intermixed them with lilac and coral. the contrast looked great in my pictures.

What i can advise you to do it take your bridemaids to david bridal have some try both shades together an have them choose which they prefer or even better you might even like how the two shades look together.

Good luck and congrats.
Reply:go with the color that looks best against your skin.
Reply:go with your instinct or pick the one that looks better on your skin .if you are tan, then the lilac will look better on you because it will bring out your tan. hope this helps!
Reply:Wow, you sound like me. My wedding is Memorial%26#039;s Day weekend 2008 and I have 5 girls altogether and they are wearing Lilac. I say pick Lilac, Victorian Lilac is too dark for me. Anything in the purple family I%26#039;ll go withk I love purple. I love the dresses at david%26#039;s bridal in lilac too. Good Luck and Congrats.
Reply:lilac. i think the lilac color fits your description to your brides maids and maid of honor.
Reply:You could use both. For my wedding, I had 3 bridesmaids with different colors and different dresses. I chose lavender and blue for my colors. I wanted each bridesmaid to be comfortable with the color and the dress. I wanted them to be able to wear the dress again. I didn%26#039;t want them to be stressed financially. I love the look in the photos. No one said anything to me about it. The main objective is that I wanted everyone to have a good time. I wanted to be a little different too. I didn%26#039;t want my wedding to be like everyone else%26#039;s.

Redoing teen girls room! HELP!!!?
That sounds cute with the colors. I suggest getting some panel curtains and using both colors in them, like t, l,l,t. have your furniture matching if possible. I would choose a maple or oak wood tone. Target has lavendar storage cubes. They are cheap(ish). Maybe do I would do a smaller section of chalkboard, as it starts to look shabby, maybe on your door or something, that way it%26#039;s easy to write yourself notes!. Have a mirror on your wall, if you want your room to look bigger. Teensthemes.com has some other ideas.
Reply:Hey

Want to redo the room ........

I know redoing room is very big problem .When i was redoing my room then i visited lots of websites but only one site was there which gives me a complete information about redoing.

Bedroom is the place where you separate yourself from all the pressures and anxieties of the world. You spend most of your time in watching TV, reading and relaxing. For all these activities you should create an overall atmosphere of fairly recreation with appropriate illumination. A blend of task and general lighting suited to the life style of the inhabitant is required.

So I give u the link of that one

http://www.gharexpert.com/Home/CategoryL...

I suggest you one another link in which cool beds images are there

http://www.gharexpert.com/Home/Articlede...

Check it once hope u like the suggestion
Reply:That sounds sooo cute!

The comforter will match PERFECTLY, I would think.

I%26#039;m a teen girl as well (13) and I got my room redone for my birthday in June.

I chose 3 colors - Lime green, blue, and yellow.

I really wanted my bed to stand out so I found this really chick comforter at WALMART! It%26#039;s black with green, blue and yellow polka dots.

All my walls are Wales Green. It%26#039;s a pretty colour in my opinon.

I also got a BIG blue velvet chair in one corner and behind that chair are these really pretty lights from Ikea! I wish I could show you a picture! They hang down from the ceiling... it%26#039;s really nice!

My advice to you -- shop around! Find the EXACT shade of teal and lilac and find as many cool nick-nacks as you can!

Once you%26#039;ve got the colors down your good to go!

Your room sounds like it will be beautiful! Love the color scheme and the comforter!

Good luck %26amp;%26amp; Happy new year!

What month do lilacs bloom??

and how long do they stay in bloom???

What month do lilacs bloom??
Lilacs do not bllom by month they and so do all other plants bloom by weather. Lilacs are one of the first flowering bushes/shrubs to bloom just after the forcythia. Lilacs stay in bloom about 2-3 weeks unless they get really hot weather then they go quicker. If you want more Lilacs each year wait until all the blooms are dead pluck them all off and next year tyou will have more than the last!! This is becasue the plant knows after you have removed the dead blooms it now can send it%26#039;s energy to growing new shoots for next years blooms!!!
Reply:Depending on where you are, they usually bloom in Late May or early June. They will bloom for about a week or so.
Reply:It depends on the weather. They are in bloom here in lower Michigan in April/May and in the Upper they bloom in June. They stay for about a week or two.

Note: if you prune them back they will not bloom. They don%26#039;t like to be trimmed.
Reply:Probably late May or early June is when the lilacs will come up.

Teen girls room HELP!!?

Hey if your reading this and planning to answer THANK YOU!!

well for starters do you like this Idea and second help me any way you think it will look better! Well my room colors are going to be Black Lilac Teal and White. Mainly black and White with Teal and Lilac as the accent colors!! KK! My mom DEFINETELY didn%26#039;t like the Idea of black walls so I%26#039;m doing my small wall a black chalkboard paint so there won%26#039;t be nearly as much black showing!! KK!! And then the wall directly across will be white with sponged lilac teal and little bit of black. And then the wall with my window will be teal and then across from that will be the lilac wall.!!! so now u%26#039;ve got that figured out!! KKK!! then My bedspread is a black and white victorian here is a link to it!! http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d... So please look at that and let me know what you think of it! and if you find a better one!! So if you have anymore Ideas please let me know!!

pick light colours. they ll brighten your attitude.

Why do you want black walls anyway? UL only like it for a day and then you ll be sorry!
Reply:I really like the bedspread! but I wouldn%26#039;t paint my wall black. Also, try checking potterybarn.com , pbteen.com , or potterybarnkids.com , because they have cool stuf too. The only problem is that they are a little pricey, but if you can swing it, that%26#039;s lucky for you!
Reply:OK first i really love the bedding, and I%26#039;m 12 so i have a lot of ideas for a teen room transformation. so the walls i would make them teal or turquoise and i would get a shag black rug

to accent your bed i dont like the purple color with black and teal. www.bedbathandbeyond.com

How Tall Do Lilacs Get?

I Need 2 Know 4 A Research Report!!!

How Tall Do Lilacs Get?
I have the traditional common variety lilac. It is as tall as the second story of my house. In the spring I can smell it%26#039;s beautiful scent through the upstairs window easily! It is close to 20 feet!
Reply:Mine is 20 feet tall.
Reply:Lilacs are a prunable and managable planting which means it can be maintained a almost any height. The minimum height would be between three to four foot high and an equal width.

I would tell you that as a Designer I attempt to put a Lilac in the open, away from a house, where it can actually grow without shaping. Pruning of this plant, like a Forsythia, is a crying shame and reduces the flowering of the plant. It is a free forming, free growing, and vig. plant when left alone to grow.

The plant needs full sun to appreciate it%26#039;s potential. The bottom line is that a Lilac can, and often is, treated as a hedge-type plant. It is a shame for the beauty of the plant can be realized when the only pruning is the removal of dead wood and dead flowers each year. Left to it%26#039;s own, given soil, moisture, and depth of winter the majority of Lilacs will grow about equally height and width-wise at a rate of anywhere from 6%26quot; to a foot/per year depending on the conditions and any fertilizer used. Hope it helps.
Reply:Most get about 4 to6 feet tall however they can get to 10 feet tall.
Reply:The problem with this question is that there isn%26#039;t just one kind of lilac bush. There are lots of varieties of lilac bushes. I have several different kinds in my yard. I have a dwarf lilac bush that stays 3 feet tall (without pruning) and one that keeps getting taller every year - it is about 8 feet tall right now. I have seen lilac bushes that look like trees - taller than houses. I am sending you a link that tells about the many different varieties of lilacs.http://www.gardenersnet.com/lilac/lilac0...

Table linens!?

Ok this is a new one for me... On your tables what color table linens did you have? Was/is your tablecloth white or match one of your wedding colors? My aunt just offered to make my table linens (she%26#039;s very talented) and she asked if I want white, silver, or lilac (the colors)... I%26#039;ve never thought about that, I always just assumed white but now that the question is there I don%26#039;t know. I could do white table clothes with lilac napkins...or lilac with silver napkins, or silver with white and lilac napkins now that%26#039;s a whole new world opened to me haha so I want to know who%26#039;s had white tablecloths, have any of you had colored ones?

Table linens!?
The answer is you can use any color that you want or even a combination of colors...for example, white table cloths with lilac or silver runners, etc. You can even alternate and do every other table in a different color. You may also choose to do all the guest tables in lilac with silver runners and the bride/groom and attendants table in white with lilac or silver runners! If you%26#039;re flowers and/or candles are white, then you may want to use the lilac and silver colors so that the flowers and candles stand out more!!
Reply:What color/kind of flowers? If you have white roses go with lilac table cloths. If you have lilacs, go with white or silver table cloths. Better yet, ask your Aunt she sounds like she knows what shes doing.
Reply:White would look best. Keep in mind that these are tablecloths people stare at while they%26#039;re eating. Colors like burgundy look great for tablecloths but lilac and silver are not that appetizing.
Reply:we are using solid black table covers since our colors are black and white. the centerpiece is a 24 inch tall empire vase filled with fresh white flowers. our napkins will be in white and we considereing doing white slip covers with a black sash or vice versa.
Reply:I say you should use a lilac table cloth with a white overlay, use lilac napkins tied with silver ribbons.

though these look nice too:

http://weddings.theknot.com/ODB/themes/r...

http://weddings.theknot.com/ODB/themes/r...
Reply:My wedding colors were white green and purple. White cloths with alternating green and purple napkins. The linens were supplied by the venue so there wasn%26#039;t much of a choice for the cloths.

If I were you I think I%26#039;d try to find a print in at least 2 of your colors. You will probably have better luck with only 2 but you may get lucky and find all 3. Whichever color is the least popular in the print is what I would use to accent your table with - napkins, flowers, candles, whatever you use. For example if you find lilac and silver, use white on top. If you find lilac and white with a touch of silver, use the silver as your accent. Using prints not only can be a richer look, but it helps with that %26#039;which color%26#039; problem.

Another thought would be to use a lilac lace over the white cloths and then use the silver accents. http://www.hancockfabrics.com/shopping/p...
Reply:my best friend just had her wedding last sat and she had burgandy tablecloths with a pink organza overlay on top
Reply:our wedding colors were black and green.

each table had either a white or black table cloth and then contrasting napkins which were tied with a green ribbon. I personally think that any color on the actual tablecloth is too much.

i have a picture to post, but I cannot post links today for whatever reason.
Reply:We had white table cloths. You could put a piece of lavender fabric under the white rose center pieces. You could also use lavender or silver napkins to add color to the table.
Reply:I would use white table clothes and then have small square ones made in lilac to go in the center with the centerpieces on top of that.
Reply:our table cloths are going to match our colors. but we are doing seat colors and i put a brown sash around them instead of the gold that is one of our colors. i would have them match or stay in the same family but it is up to you it is your day!!

Does this sound cute??

I%26#039;ve got to buy my best friend a christmas present, and I%26#039;m thinking about buying her a crocodile clip( one of the bigger ones that can hold the entire hair) that has many colours like s soft, light blue, a cute pink, and lilac (not entirely sure if it%26#039;s called lilac, it%26#039;s a kinda pinkish, pretty light purple, a very pleasant and soft color if you ask me) , a pair of lil%26#039; square stud earrings in a shade of lilac that matches the shade on the hair clip, and a scarf or a pair of gloves, again in the same lilac color (either a scarf or a pair of gloves, but NOT both). Does this present sound cute to you?? Would you like it if your friend bought you something like this? If not, any suggestions on what to buy??? Thanks.

Why don't Lilacs last very long?

on the trees, or in vases? Does anyone know?

Why don%26#039;t Lilacs last very long?
Its very weather dependant. Lilacs stay in flower for a couple weeks if the weather is right. If its very hot and dry maybe only a couple days. It takes the plant alot of energy to bloom so the less energy it spends on blooming the better for it. After all its goal is not making pretty nice smelling flowers for us.
Reply:Where do you live

In NJ they lasted several weeks. It was always weather dependent.
Reply:It%26#039;s a life cycle, if you go and cut them off the tree when they are brown, they will sometimes bloom again.

How to prune lilacs to get more blooms?

Lilacs need to be pruned right after they bloom as they use the summer to set buds for next year. If the plants have not been pruned in quite some time take do not remove more than one third of the growth. Prune out old diseased branches. Remember where ever you prune will branch. Always prune to an outside bud. That way the branches will grow out from the bush and not in toward the center. You want light and air to be able to reach inside the bush (cuts down on fungus and disease also). Feed the bush a complete fertilizer rose food does well. One other thing is the bush receiving enough sun? Perhaps a tree has grown up and shaded the bush? just a thought. Remember to water the bushes in the summer. An inch a week is a good idea. let the water trickle on to the roots. Mulch around the bush to conserve moisture and to help keep grass and weeds from competing for the water and nutrients.

How to prune lilacs to get more blooms?
The branches without blooms, cut back. Do not cut back bush more than 1/3 of it%26#039;s pre-pruned size or you risk killing it. Also, fetilize with Miracle Grow %26quot;Bloom Booster%26quot; around the drip line of the bush. Water thoroughly.

Why don%26#039;t they stay in bloom longer?????

Why do lilacs only stay for a week or two??
I also enjoy lilacs, heady fragance. Could be ph level, lack of or too much water, not enough sun.

These plants require winter chill, and thrive in zone 7 and on to the lower zones, with some doing well even after a -40 F. reading!

Lilacs bloom for only a very short period of time. Their heady fragrance is the hallmark of mid- to late-spring, and there is no finer activity than gathering armloads of these lovely ladies for vases and containers around the home.

Sore subject for me, that ahole chopped my lilac bush down. Doesn%26#039;t matter anyway, really, cuz after paying housepayments to HIM for 2 years, I find out we%26#039;ve been foreclosed cuz he spent THAT 800 bucks a month on his little ho, too. ahem.

I don%26#039;t think they%26#039;ll bloom for a couple more weeks yet, though. Love em, we had a whole row on the west side of the farm house when I was a little girl, that%26#039;s why I finally got my own - ahem...........

When do lilacs bloom?

Technically to answer your question: flowering starts after 80-110 growing degree days, when specifically would depend on where you live.

Lilacs (Syringa) (sometimes called Pipe trees) are a genus of about 20 species of flowering plants in the family Oleaceae, native to Europe and Asia. Lilacs range in size from large shrubs to small trees, 2-10 m tall. The leaves are opposite, deciduous, and in most species simple and heart-shaped, but pinnate in a few species (e.g. S. laciniata, S. pinnatifolia). The flowers are produced in spring, each flower about 1 cm diameter, white, pale pink or more generally purple, with four petals. The flowers grow in large panicles, and in several species have a strong fragrance. Flowering starts after 80-110 growing degree days.

Lilacs are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Copper Underwing, Scalloped Oak and Svensson%26#039;s Copper Underwing.

When do lilacs bloom?
Mine have been blooming for about 3 weeks now.
Reply:In my area--zone 5 in N. Ohio--they bloom in early May.
Reply:Right now. I have some starting to bloom in the back yard. It smellswonderful!
Reply:Depends on where you live and what variety of lilac. Usually only a couple of weeks in early spring.
Reply:I%26#039;m in zone 4...early May... there are some varieties that will bloom a little throughout the growing season, one of them is Dwarf Korean Lilac...also, if you need to prune lilacs, be sure to do it within a week or 2 after the blooms are spent... lilacs set their next flowers about 2 weeks after the current ones are spent

Why are Lilacs only in bloom for one month???

Because that;s what Mother Nature designed them to do. They need the rest of the time to form seed pods from there blossoms in order to reproduce theirselves.

Roses vs. Lilacs?

i love lilacas.. but they smell so bad after a while.. what can i do to hinder this.

Roses vs. Lilacs?
Roses. Grow them in a garden and sometime someone will give them to you.
Reply:I like red roses... a dozen that is.
Reply:Roses also have this pretty bad honey-smelling scent as time passes which i personally don%26#039;t find it satisfying
Reply:Don%26#039;t keep them for some time. Just throw them away every five or ten minutes. Who compels you to love Lilacs? Change your habit right now, as this is the best time for it.

Homework Please Help! What is the signifigance of lilacs in Lincoln's Eulegy?

I am doing a small presentation on a part of the eulegy of Abraham Lincoln. Although this question doesn%26#039;t relate to the presentation I have to give it would help if I understood it. Your help is greatly appreciated if you have forgotten what the eulegy is called it is %26quot; When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom%26#039;d.%26quot; Thank you and I would really like serious answers please.

Homework Please Help! What is the signifigance of lilacs in Lincoln%26#039;s Eulegy?
As an elegy on the death of Abraham Lincoln, %26quot;When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom%26#039;d%26quot; may be placed in contexts both historical and literary. The historical facts need only brief mention. While attending a performance at Ford%26#039;s Theater in Washington, D.C., on the evening of 14 April 1865, President Lincoln was shot by the actor John Wilkes Booth; mortally wounded, he died the following morning. On 20 April his body lay in state at the Capitol, and the next day it began a 1,600-mile journey by rail across the landscape and through major cities on its way to Springfield, Illinois, for interment on 4 May.

At the time of the assassination Whitman was with his mother in Brooklyn. As he recalls in Specimen Days, %26quot;The day of the murder we heard the news very early in the morning. Mother prepared breakfast--and other meals afterward--as usual; but not a mouthful was eaten all day by either of us. We each drank half a cup of coffee; that was all. Little was said. We got every newspaper morning and evening, and the frequent extras of that period, and pass%26#039;d them silently to each other%26quot; (Prose Works 1:31). Composition of %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; began almost immediately after the assassination and was completed within weeks. Initial publication was in Sequel to Drum-Taps, issued by Gibson Brothers in the fall of 1865 and bound with Drum-Taps; the poem made its first appearance in the text of Leaves of Grass in 1881, although Sequel, along with Drum-Taps and Songs Before Parting, had been bound with the fourth (1867) edition.

Whitman had for years admired and defended the president. %26quot;I believe fully in Lincoln,%26quot; he commented in an 1863 letter; %26quot;few know the rocks %26amp; quicksands he has to steer through%26quot; (Correspondence 1:163-164). Whitman had been present at Lincoln%26#039;s second inauguration just weeks before the assassination. The president, he noted in a Specimen Days entry, %26quot;look%26#039;d very much worn and tired; the lines, indeed, of vast responsibilities, intricate questions, and demands of life and death, cut deeper than ever upon his dark brown face; yet all the old goodness, tenderness, sadness, and canny shrewdness, underneath the furrows. (I never see that man without feeling that he is one to become personally attach%26#039;d to, for his combination of purest, heartiest tenderness, and native western form of manliness.)%26quot; (Prose Works 1:92).

While the assassination of President Lincoln is the occasion of %26quot;When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom%26#039;d,%26quot; the subject, in the manner of elegy, is both other and broader than its occasion. %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; turns out to be not just about the death of Abraham Lincoln, but about death itself; in section 7, just after the poet has placed a sprig of lilac on the coffin, the poem makes a pointed transition: %26quot;Nor for you, for one alone,%26quot; the poet chants, %26quot;Blossoms and branches green to coffins all I bring.%26quot; Significantly, Lincoln is never mentioned by name in %26quot;Lilacs,%26quot; nor does the poem relate the circumstances of his death; indeed, the absence of the historical Lincoln in the poem is one of its more striking features. Historical considerations give way to universal significance. The fact of assassination, for example, is not mentioned, for, while all people die, assassination is the fate of only a few.

Discussion of the poem has focused largely on its style, on its structure, on the significance of its three major symbols of lilac, star, and thrush, and on the nature of the final resolution, with its distinction between %26quot;the thought of death%26quot; and %26quot;the knowledge of death,%26quot; with whom the poet walks as companions (section 14). Stylistically, as opposed to the earlier Whitman of %26quot;Song of Myself,%26quot; the poet of %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; works in a more Tennysonian mode, creating a poetry refined, mellifluous, and carefully controlled. Making no pretense of spontaneity, the poem proclaims on every line its artifice and its artistry.

The general structure of %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; follows the traditional pattern of elegy in its movement from grief to consolation, and it includes such traditional elegiac elements as the funeral procession, the mourning of nature, the placing of flowers upon the coffin, the contrast between nature%26#039;s cyclical renewal and humanity%26#039;s mortality, the eulogy, and the final resolution of sorrow; the development, however, is notably indirect. %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; circles and turns back on itself, seeking direction until it finds rest in the concluding reconciliation; the pattern suggests the fluctuations of emotion rather than the strict progressions of logical development. The structure of %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; has also been likened to music, with its use of themes and motifs recurring in isolation and set off against each other, but moving always toward a concluding harmony.

The three major symbols of the elegy--lilac, star, and hermit thrush--had particular significance for Whitman. In his lecture on Lincoln, delivered on a number of occasions from 1879 to 1890, Whitman recalled the day of the assassination. %26quot;I remember,%26quot; he said, %26quot;where I was stopping at the time, the season being advanced, there were many lilacs in full bloom. By one of those caprices that enter and give tinge to events without being at all a part of them, I find myself always reminded of the great tragedy of that day by the sight and odor of these blossoms. It never fails%26quot; (Prose Works 2:503).

The star--actually, the planet Venus--was indeed low in the sky at the time of the assassination, as Whitman describes in the poem. In a Specimen Days entry dating from around the time of Lincoln%26#039;s second inauguration, Whitman wrote, %26quot;Nor earth nor sky ever knew spectacles of superber beauty than some of the nights lately here. The western star, Venus, in the earlier hours of evening, has never been so large, so clear; it seems as if it told something, as if it held rapport indulgent with humanity, with us Americans%26quot; (Prose Works 1:94).

A notebook entry of 1865 suggests the significance of the hermit thrush in the elegy: %26quot;Solitary Thrush . . . sings oftener after sundown sometimes quite in the night / is very secluded / likes shaded, dark, places in swamps . . . his song is a hymn . . . he never sings near the farm houses--never in the settlement / is the bird of the solemn primal woods %26amp; of Nature pure %26amp; holy%26quot; (Notebooks 2:766).

In %26quot;Lilacs,%26quot; the three major symbols accumulate meaning as the poem develops. While there are differing interpretations of each, the three being resonant and profound, in the nature of complex symbols, still, it is generally agreed that the star introduced in section 2 (%26quot;O great star disappear%26#039;d%26quot;) is to be associated with the man who has died, although by no means is it to be considered simply as %26quot;Lincoln,%26quot; and the lilac that enters the poem in section 3 (%26quot;tall-growing with heart-shaped leaves of rich green%26quot;) suggests an exuberant, vital, sensuous nature, a nature of fecundity and eternal renewal. The thrush is of course also of nature, but in the poem it becomes more than merely natural. A creature %26quot;of Nature pure %26amp; holy,%26quot; as in the notebook jotting quoted above, it expresses itself in song, and thus has been considered a figure of the bardic poet or the seer, a visionary singer of ultimate insight.

While attention has been focused on the three major symbols, other images in the poem also take on symbolic value, most notably the cloud and the swamp. The cloud appears early, in section 2, as an image of oppression (%26quot;O harsh surrounding cloud that will not free my soul%26quot;), and it returns late, in section 14; significantly, it is seen in that section immediately prior to the moment when the poet attains enlightened knowledge (%26quot;And I knew death, its thought, and the sacred knowledge of death%26quot;), an illumination it is unable to prevent, for by then it has become powerless, and the poet is free to make his journey to the swamp.

Home of the secluded thrush, the swamp is a place of revelation, where words are given to intuitive knowledge. Like the beach, another setting important to Whitman as a site of revelation, the swamp is an in-between state, a meeting-place of earth and water; the poet specifically describes himself in section 14 as going %26quot;Down to the shores.%26quot;

As the major symbols suggest, %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; is firmly based in the natural world, and it is there that the poem must find its consolations. Whitman refused to seek comfort in the supernatural; the Christian vision of eternal life in heaven that Milton found in %26quot;Lycidas%26quot; was not available to him, and he deliberately avoided any suggestion of it. The lilacs will return; Lincoln will not, and he will have no life other than the one he has lost, not even in nature, for Whitman significantly refrained from invoking the view taken in section 6 of %26quot;Song of Myself,%26quot; that death is no more than part of the continuum of life (%26quot;The smallest sprout shows there is really no death . . .%26quot;) and thus may be dismissed as inconsequential. Whitman%26#039;s experience of the Civil War, including of course his service in the hospitals, had evidently tempered his outlook; he had seen too much of death to dismiss it so readily.

%26quot;Lilacs%26quot; offers the explicit consolation that death is a release from the sufferings of life. But if that rationale were all, there would be no need of the thrush, whose song is a joyous carol in praise of death, not a lament about the sorrows of human life. When the poet is ready to hear that song, he has already reconciled %26quot;the thought of death%26quot; with %26quot;the sacred knowledge of death%26quot; (section 14). While interpretations differ, it is significant that the word %26quot;sacred%26quot; is applied only to the latter. A thought may be fleeting and changeable, concerned with a particular death, while sacred knowledge suggests ultimate insight: complete comprehension of death itself and its place in the universal order.

Whitman has the tact not to try to explain this insight, for it is necessarily intuitive and inexpressible. It comes suddenly, without prelude, at the unlikely moment when the cloud returns: %26quot;And I knew death, its thought, and the sacred knowledge of death%26quot; (section 14). One simply knows, as in the visionary passage of %26quot;Song of Myself,%26quot; section 5, when the poet attains enlightenment: %26quot;Swiftly arose and spread around me the peace and knowledge that pass all the argument of the earth. . . .%26quot;

%26quot;Passing the visions, passing the night,%26quot; the poet of %26quot;Lilacs%26quot; moves on toward conclusion (section 16), ready to reclaim the life he has left, putting the experience of the night behind him, but by no means abandoning it. %26quot;Yet each to keep and all, retrievements out of the night,%26quot; he chants, knowing that the experience has been transforming, for the vision granted him has brought ultimate knowledge of life and death. At the end of %26quot;Lilacs,%26quot; all disparate elements have been reconciled: %26quot;Lilac and star and bird twined with the chant of my soul, / There in the fragrant pines and the cedars dusk and dim.%26quot;

Can lilacs be grown from cuttings?

Yes, lilacs can be grown from cuttings. Use a semi-soft (fairly new) twig. Cut just below the second set of leaves. Remove the lower leaves. Dip in rooting hormone. Put in damp potting soil and place container in a plastic bag. Put in a shady place. Keep damp until it develops roots. Good luck!

Can lilacs be grown from cuttings?
THEY MAY CONTINUE TO BLOOM UNTIL THEY DIE BUT I DONT THINK THAT THEY%26#039;LL MULTIPLY LIKE A SPIDER PLANT WOULD, JUST LIKE GLADIOLAS, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO BLOOM TILL THEY DIE AND THEN THATS IT. IRISES, ROSE BUSHES AND LILLIES AND THAT CAN THOUGH. IF THEY HAVE ROOTS OR BULBS THEN THEY MAY IF REPLANTED CORRECTLY--TRY IT--NOTHING TO LOSE REALLY.
Reply:Mac and Cindy are right. Willows are what aspirin comes from.
Reply:Yes, Cindy B is right on with a good answer. One thing to try if you have weeping willows available. A few fresh cuttings of willow branches in the jar along side of lilac cuttings in a jar of water will put roots on it faster than about anything ... just an option ... Cindy B has the conventional answer. Good luck, lilacs are great!

Fertilizing lilacs?

Miracle grow

Fertilizing lilacs?
chop up the soil around the base, and mix in coffee grounds.
Reply:Sprinkle with Epson Salts
Reply:I would recommend a fertilizer that has more staying power and is better balanced than Miracle-Gro. In my gardens I use Espoma fertilizers, and I have been very impressed with them. Most garden centers will stock their products, and I have seen them at Home Depot or Lowes. For Lilacs I would use Espoma Tree-Tone or Espoma Plant-Tone.

Regardless of what company you choose, make sure you avoid fertilizers that dramatically acidify the soil (Holly-Tone, Miracid, etc). Lilacs prefer soil that has a slightly basic or neutral pH.

I pasted a link to the Espoma website below.

Enjoy the Lilacs, they are a beautiful plant!

My lilacs arent flowering after 2 years. They are mostly in shade. should I move them and when should I do it?

Some lilacs start flowering two years after planting, but many take about five years. They can produce heavy blooms one year and few the next. For best results, plant in full sun away greedy roots of mature trees and follow proper pruning practices. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizers, as they encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

I have lilacs growing everywhere and they do NOT need full sun. Partial but not full. fertilize them very well and they should bloom for you next years. it does take them a while to get established. and if you move them you will just have to start all over again.

My lilacs have green leaves but they are wilted and there is no sigh of bugs what could cause this?

I do not over water them and they are in full sun

My lilacs have green leaves but they are wilted and there is no sigh of bugs what could cause this?
it could be a nitrogen deficiency. and just because there is no sign of bugs, they could be underground or in the grass.
Reply:1. Overwatering.

2. Sun=brown

3. Root issue- are they in a cramped container?

4. Lack of iron may be an issue. Use Miracle Grow, it is an excellent help for plants...I have a lot of them.
Reply:The roots may be in a tight ball and are not getting moisture and food. Was it planted recently? If so, you need to dig it up and open up the root ball.
Reply:Got water???
Reply:try some fertilizer
Reply:It sounds like they are not getting ENOUGH water.It could also be from transplant shock , if they were recently planted. if that is the case, just give them tender loving care, a little fertilizer, and keep their roots moist, ( not soggy ) until they %26#039;take hold %26#039; and they should be fine,(unless you damaged too many roots in the transplanting process.)
Reply:When do you water them? Only water them early morning or late evening because it will cause them to cook if you do it during the day.

Are lilacs good companion plants for roses?

I am unsure of what you are saying about companion plants. I do know that my garden has lilacs and roses. A very pretty combination for a traditional garden or Victorian garden. It reminds me of my childhood and my grandmother%26#039;s garden. Lilacs come in many varieties and should be researched. They also only bloom once a year. That is why having roses to look at, will bring you joy the rest of the summer, when the lilacs are out of bloom. Good Luck!

Are lilacs good companion plants for roses?
Lilacs are much taller and do not need the 6 hours of sun the roses need. It depends on the sun or shade of the spots where you are going to plant and of course the color of those roses.

The mood of the garden is usually defined by the plants and colors. For example yellow and purple is happy, lavender and white, romantic, etc...
Reply:I don%26#039;t see why not. They both enjoy full sun. I have a Miss Kim Korean lilac next to a floribunda and they both work beautifully together. Just make sure to give them both enough room for growing. Lilacs can get up to 10%26#039; high %26amp; wide over time.
Reply:Yes they are, it really gives my flower garden WOW!
Reply:lilacs prefer a moderately rich garden soil with a fairly high lime content. They can sucker if their roots are disturbed, so best not to plant them too closely to your roses which are fertilised regularly and have their soil turned. Keep them wide enough apart so each does not affect the other.

My lilacs are budding in Iowa way too early now what? strawberries too?

It certainly has been a strange year here in the midwest (WISC here). I really wish I knew what to tell you except to enjoy the lilacs now instead of later who knows they may bloom again. As for the strawberries ,is it anything you can bring indoors at night? Otherwise maybe mulch would be a good idea to cover them somehow when the weather is sure to change here at some point..Not much help but I hope you can enjoy the lilacs anyhow I know I would.

My lilacs are budding in Iowa way too early now what? strawberries too?
Lilacs appear to push buds out quite far, very early. However, I%26#039;ve never seen one damaged by the cold. Nature knows its business!

Do lilacs do good in acidic soil like blueberries?

Not that acidic! They do better closer to neutral......so slightly acidic, neutral and up into the alkaline zone, but not too far.

Do lilacs do good in acidic soil like blueberries?
No - they like rather more alkaline soil. You can add lime to bring alkalinity up to ph 7.5
