How Tall Do Lilacs Get?

I Need 2 Know 4 A Research Report!!!

How Tall Do Lilacs Get?
I have the traditional common variety lilac. It is as tall as the second story of my house. In the spring I can smell it%26#039;s beautiful scent through the upstairs window easily! It is close to 20 feet!
Reply:Mine is 20 feet tall.
Reply:Lilacs are a prunable and managable planting which means it can be maintained a almost any height. The minimum height would be between three to four foot high and an equal width.

I would tell you that as a Designer I attempt to put a Lilac in the open, away from a house, where it can actually grow without shaping. Pruning of this plant, like a Forsythia, is a crying shame and reduces the flowering of the plant. It is a free forming, free growing, and vig. plant when left alone to grow.

The plant needs full sun to appreciate it%26#039;s potential. The bottom line is that a Lilac can, and often is, treated as a hedge-type plant. It is a shame for the beauty of the plant can be realized when the only pruning is the removal of dead wood and dead flowers each year. Left to it%26#039;s own, given soil, moisture, and depth of winter the majority of Lilacs will grow about equally height and width-wise at a rate of anywhere from 6%26quot; to a foot/per year depending on the conditions and any fertilizer used. Hope it helps.
Reply:Most get about 4 to6 feet tall however they can get to 10 feet tall.
Reply:The problem with this question is that there isn%26#039;t just one kind of lilac bush. There are lots of varieties of lilac bushes. I have several different kinds in my yard. I have a dwarf lilac bush that stays 3 feet tall (without pruning) and one that keeps getting taller every year - it is about 8 feet tall right now. I have seen lilac bushes that look like trees - taller than houses. I am sending you a link that tells about the many different varieties of lilacs.http://www.gardenersnet.com/lilac/lilac0...
