Do you trim off the dead bloom from last year??If not where exactly do you do the trimming?
How and when do you trim lilac trees to keep them blooming every year?
Yes indeed! Cut off last years blooms, cleaning these out just makes the bush look so much nicer! Using a good sharp nippers clip the branch back to a good strong bud that is growing away from the centre of the bush. If the bush is too tall for your liking you can cut lilacs back to only a couple of feet if you want them that short, as new growth with break out of the old wood and also sucker from the root system. Lilacs are lime lovers, so you can apply hydrated lime now or in the fall or use dolomite lime any time. Sweet scented lilacs! Here we have three beautiful colors of blooms. Deep purple, lighter purple and a splendid white!
Reply:i%26#039;ve never trimmed mine and they bloom wonderfully every year.
Reply:Lilacs bloom every other bloom every other year.In the Fall after the blooms have died off it will be easiest to know where to make your cuts.
Reply:always trim any shrubbery or tree in the fall when its sap stops flowing never trim major arteries that will shock it and it will die if you are brave enough to go inside the foliage you can trim the dead ends as i call them to open up the inside for air circulation this will produce more oxygen and make for a healthier plant
Reply:I have two lilac bushes, one purple one white. The first year I planted them they didn%26#039;t bloom.Evey year after that they have bloomed. There is no need to trim off the dead blooms. If it%26#039;s not blooming it may be to young.Give it time it will. They smell great!
