Problems removing lilacs?

HI -

We recently purchased a new home and are trying to re-do the landscaping in our yard. The previous owners did nothing and the plants and shrubs are out of control.

My question is this - I need to remove a lilac bush. It is as big as a tree. My husband cut it down, but it has resprouted. There are hunderds of off-shoots. How do we get rid of these? Is there no way to kill off a lilac?

Thanks for your help!

Problems removing lilacs?
You are going to have to dig the roots up, Lilacs are very hardy and will easily regrow from cut down areas so get as much of the root structure as possible.
