How can I tell if my lilac bush will survive??

I planted it in November. The bush sprouted green leaves, but the animals have ate it off. Is there anyway to tell if they will survive?

it will survive but it wont bloom you should move it to wear the animals cant get it
Reply:Don%26#039;t give up on it until after next spring. Plants are more resiliant than one thinks. Wait until spring and see if buds come. You might want to put some fencing or netting around it to stop the critters chowing down on it. If it does come back, you will not have blooms next spring because the flower buds are formed ln mid to late summer. .But give it a chance.
Reply:give it till spring again. I give mine a serious pruning every fall, and they come back prettier the next year. they love to be pruned, so consider your lilacs pruned for this year. Next season. put a netting over it to keep the animals from eating the shoots. That will give it time to develop.
Reply:I can tell you from experience that it will...Many years ago, we paid a guy to spray our driveway for weeds...This was to last three to five years...Well, you guessed it...He also sprayed our lined driveway of lilacs...We won in court, and it took us a little time to dig these lilacs out...Low and behold, the year we were going to remove them, they came back...Lilacs are super survivors!
Reply:Lilacs can take a lot of abuse and neglect and still thrive. After a severe injury or bad pruning job it may not bloom much next spring however if it still produces leaves and shoots it will eventually be fine.

The most important thing is patience. Lilacs can be slow to heal but that%26#039;s just the way they are. Those few weeks of incredible blooms in the spring are worth it.
Reply:It should be ok, the leaves missing will only cause stronger root growth. But you need to Lime lilacs in the fall and spring if you want flower, if you don%26#039;t sprinkle lime around the tree, you won%26#039;t get flowers. And I would suggest hanging a sock filled with human hair on the bush to keep the deer away.
