My son has a very nice lilac, and when it got bigger, it started sending off shoots from the bottom. We took a shovel, and just chopped a couple of the shoots off and I brought it home and planted it. It%26#039;s growing nicely. Make sure you get some roots. Good luck, it%26#039;s always fun to try something new!
How do I get a start off a lilac bush and how do I plant it?
look down around the roots. if you see little sprouts then you can dig them up and cut them of the parent plant and just plant them where you want them. give them lots of water and keep an eye on them. we did this last year and they all lived and are growing just fine.
hope this helps!! good luck!!
Reply:They grow new sprouts around the bottom of the bush, and you will just need to dig you up a start. Just don%26#039;t plant your new one too deep, keep it at the same level it was at, and water it well at first. I did it that way to get mine started years ago. It does take them quite a few years to bloom for the first time though~I%26#039;ve heard up until 7 years~and it may have been that long for mine. I didn%26#039;t think it was ever going to, but it%26#039;s gorgeous now:)
Good Luck!!
Reply:Take a young cutting off of an existing lilac and place the cut part in a rooting hormone. then place in moist soil and watch it grow.
Reply:Oh that%26#039;s easy, Lilac bushes have starts around the bottom of the bush. Go look around the bottom of the bush, they will look like little sprouts. could be anywhere from 3 to 6 inch or more tall. just dig them up and replant them. make sure to give the fresh planted bush lots of water and you should have no problem with them growing. I just did mine last year and had so many new starts that I didnt dig them all up. We have since had a cold winter and now it is spring and they are doing just great!!
Good luck! I love the smell of Lilacs in the spring!
