I also posed that question earlier this summer. I was told that after the tree blooms there will be seed pods that grow. They are green. Inside those pods are usually 2 sometimes only one narrow seed. harvest them when they are brown. If you wait too long when they are dried out and crusty looking the birds will open them and eat the seeds. Store the seeds you are not using in the freezer and pull them out as needed. Also last year I dug out some of the seedlings just begining at the base of the tree. I planted them in a pot and during the winter I kept the plant on my enclosed porch. By doing that, it still cycled but did not have to withstand the snow and severe weather. It is the best little plant and I transfered it this spring. I has since started seedlings of its own.
How do you get the seeds from a lilac tree?
I do not know what country you are in. However, most large seed stores have seeds for the folllowing varieties of lilacs. The cos of the seeds are negligible. they work out to about U%26gt;S fifty cents each or from$7.95 to $5.95 per pack in the U.S. The average oacket contains 10 seeds.
Syringa oblata: Early Lilac --
Syringa reticulata: Japanese Tree Lilac.
Syringa josikaea: Hungarian Lilac.
Syringa pekinensis: Pekin Lilac.
Syringa villosa: Late Lilac.
Syringa vulgaris: Common Lilac.
