What's the best way to preserve lilac flowers in order to enjoy the scent long after the flowering cycle?

I would extract the oil from the flower (this is what smells good anyway). To do this take as many of the flowers as you can and crush the pedals and head of the flower into a powder (as fine as you can get it). Then take the powder and put it in an approved flask for heating. Setup a distallation chamber and heat the flask thus distilling the oil away from the flower. You will only produce a minute amount of oil for each flower so you%26#039;ll need multiple ones, but it only takes a little as its extremely concentrated. Hope this helps. (Oh if you don%26#039;t have the scientific equipment to do this then maybe just enjoy them while you can.)
