Freezewatch tonight. Should I cover my lilac bush?

It%26#039;s going down to the mid thirties tonight, and there is a %26quot;freezewatch%26quot;. My bush didn%26#039;t bloom much last year because of all those terrible freezes down in the teens. It%26#039;s quite a large bush. There%26#039;s tons of blooms starting. Should I cover it with a sheet or something, or will that do more harm than good?

My first thought was, you don%26#039;t need to cover lilac, they need a good freeze....but not if you have blooms already starting! Oh No! :) So yes, cover it..... a sheet is fine. It won%26#039;t do any harm and may just be enough to protect those baby blooms. A sheet alone won%26#039;t help if you get a really hard freeze, but from 28 - 32 it will help.

I hope you get your lilacs! I just planted mine (new home) and I won%26#039;t get blooms for another year or two. %26lt;sigh%26gt; :)
Reply:I would not worry about them. They are high up and freeze warnings at this time of year are for ground frost. I live in Quebec and have lilac trees and we can get frost well in to May and I have had no problems
Reply:I think you should just leave it
