Can i cut the blooms off of lilac bushes?
Hmmm be careful when cutting . Cut the blooms and only the blooms. It sounds like you trimmed to far and cut off next year%26#039;s crop.

Feed the post bloomed lilacs the rets of the summer with a triple 16 fertiler and they may reward you the next season with even more blloms!

Good luck!
Reply:I have never had a problem like you describe and I love lilacs. I cut them once the bloom dies off, and I always get more blooms the next year on the same branches. I have also read and heard that when lilacs get too tall, you cut them down to 2 or 3 feet and let them grow back again. You may have a problem with lack of sunlight or fertilizer. As an experiment, try cutting a few--less than half--of the stems back to 2 or 2 feet and seen what happens. Maybe it will rejuvenate the plant.
Reply:well have you heard the saying that if you cut them they wont grow back for 7 years or something? well its pretty much true lilacs take very long to grow back. thats why its illegal to pick wild ones.
Reply:yes blooms on new growth
